Our Gifted and Talented Testing Process

At Elevated Insights Assessment, we tailor our assessments to the unique needs of each individual, ensuring a thorough and accurate evaluation. The testing process typically involves:

The process begins with an in-depth discussion of developmental history. This involves gathering information from parents using a structured interview to understand ongoing concerns and goals for the assessment.

Our standardized cognitive tests evaluate several key areas of brain function. The tests are administered in a quiet and comfortable setting, and they may include tools such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V), Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV), Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-V), or the Differential Ability Scales (DAS–II) to measure overall intelligence. These assessments identify children who score significantly higher than their peers in areas like reasoning, memory, and verbal comprehension.

In certain cases, additional testing may be beneficial such as Achievement, Executive Functioning, and/or Social Emotional. Academic assessments can help identify your child’s academic performance in subjects like math, reading, and writing. This helps us identify areas where they may be excelling beyond their grade level. Executive functioning and social emotional testing can help identify any co-occurring condition seen in GT youth as well as better understand how these traits may influence their academic and social experiences. Some intellectually gifted children are also considered twice-exceptional or 2E. A 2E child is one who is both gifted and has a learning or developmental challenge. This means that your child shows above-average abilities or talents in certain areas, but also has struggles in other areas that might require support or accommodations. The term “exceptional” refers to their high abilities, while “twice” points to the fact that they also face challenges like ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or other learning disabilities. Additional testing can help parents understand the broader nature of their child’s learning profile.

We discuss the testing results with parents, offering guidance on the next steps to ensure your child’s intellectual and creative abilities are nurtured. We can also assist with advocating for advanced placement programs, gifted education services, or other appropriate educational adjustments.

After the testing is complete, we provide a detailed report that includes your child’s IQ score, academic achievement levels, and insights into their strengths and areas of giftedness. We also offer recommendations for educational placement, enrichment programs, or acceleration options to help them reach their full potential.
