Our IEE Assessment Process
Our IEE process follows a comprehensive and individualized approach to ensure all aspects of your child’s educational and developmental needs are fully understood:
The process begins with an in-depth discussion of developmental history. This involves gathering information from parents using a structured interview to understand ongoing concerns, goals for the assessment, and inform the testing battery. We start with a thorough review of your concerns and the existing school evaluations. This is a 1-hour appointment conducted via telehealth.
As part of the comprehensive assessment we review relevant records including school records (e.g., report cards, standardized test scores, IEPS, etc.), previous academic or psychological assessments, and/or relevant medical history. Reviewing these documents allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the child’s developmental and educational, background. It helps us identify any patterns, previous diagnoses, or interventions that may inform our current evaluation.
We conduct a series of standardized tests to assess cognitive abilities, academic skills, attention, executive functioning, language abilities, and social-emotional development. Testing may include:
- Cognitive and IQ testing
- Achievement testing in reading, writing, and math
- Behavioral and emotional assessments
- Attention and executive functioning assessments
We use standardized questionnaires to gather detailed information from multiple perspectives — including parents, teachers, and, in some cases, the individual being assessed.
When relevant, we will conduct additional collateral interview(s) with the child’s educators or other professionals involved in their care.
We hold a feedback session to explain the results in detail, answer any questions, and provide guidance on how to use the IEE to advocate for your child’s educational rights. We can also assist in IEP or 504 Plan meetings to ensure that our recommendations are properly implemented.
After the evaluation, we provide a comprehensive report detailing our findings. This includes specific recommendations for educational accommodations, interventions, and services to help your child succeed in school.
